Frequently Asked Questions on Linux Hosting :

Some questions arise from customers more often than others. To save you time delving through the relevant manual sections for an answer, we've compiled a list of the questions that arise most often on the support desk, and given either short answer or a pointer to more complete information for each of them. Although we've tried to divide these questions into several sections, there isn't any particular order to these, as they have been slowly added over time as we monitor our Help Desk

SERVICE QUESTIONS

Can I add another domain to my account?

You can add an additional domain name onto your account for a fee of Rs.500/year. This is to park the domain name onto the same main address as your account or to bifurcate bulk space in to smaller accounts. You must handle domain name registration, the fees for this are separate and to be paid to network solutions. You may register your domain name using this address Name servers to use are as follows:

Primary Name Server:

Do you provide online credit card processing?

We are currently in the process of providing credit card processing, the feature will be back up very soon. However, other merchant accounts will work with your BombayBiz  account. 

I'm transferring over my domain from a previous hosting service - what do I need to do?

First, you will need to know what your account status is for your domain. 

This is probably at one of the following: networksolutions.com, register.com, domains4free.com, as well as many others. 

Second, you will need to view your domain account information wherever your domain is registered at (Once again, probably at one of the above or you may try http://checkdomain.com). 

On this page there will be your DNS information. (Example ns.vi.com 216.13.12.11). 

You will need to replace the DNS information on this page with the following: 

ns.intelpowerhost.com 66.49.211.132
ns2.intelpowerhost.com 66.49.211.144

Now submit the changes (via Submit Button on bottom of page or other button), and you are done. 

Important: This may take up to 2-3 days to complete. When you submit the changes, it sends an email to 
the current DNS holder, your domain holder must wait for the current DNS holder to reply with a 'yes' before 
they can proceed with the domain transfer. 

Do I need to know Unix to manage my web site?

No you do not. This is why we provide the control panel, as well as several very easy to use protocols to edit your page. Such as FTP, Front Page, and the HTMl editor in the cpanel.

What's the difference between SSL and SSH?

SSL is a secure method for web transfer. SSH is a secure shell protocol, used for shell functions. Think of it as a secure telnet. 

Can I use .asp pages or access databases on Linux Servers?

No you may not. These are both very inefficient, and are limited to NT servers . We instead offer support for a very advanced scripting language, PHP4 on all our linux servers.

How do I change my login or password?

You cannot modify your login. Your password can be modified in the Password section of your control panel.

I need to configure my mail reading program so I can access my email. What are the proper settings?

POP Settings - To configure your client to receive mail delivered to your POP mailbox, use the following steps:

(Please take note that not all mail clients will use these exact names for their configuration fields. If your mail client is significantly different from this, enter a support request with the names of the fields from your mail client's configuration screen)

1) e-mail address / mailbox address :- Enter the e-mail address of the POP account

2) login id / account name :-  Enter the login name of the POP account - your first POP account will have the same login ID as your server login. Additional POP account will have a different login ID from the e-mail address*. When you create new POP accounts through the cpanel, you will be told the login ID that corresponds to the e-mail address of the address**.

*Make sure you use the full email address for the login for any email account created after the default account. For example, for yourdomain.com, the default login ID would be yourdoma (same as cpanel login, all default usernames are first eight characters of the domain), you would just use yourdoma as the login ID for the email client.  For bob@yourdomain.com, a newly created POP3 account (created through your online control panel), you would use bob@yourdomain.com as your login ID.

**Netscape Users: If you experience a problem with using the full email address as the login name, replace the "@" in the login, with a "%".  Example, bob@yourdomain.com would be bob%yourdomain.com.  This lets netscape use the full email address correctly as the login ID.

3) password :- Enter the password you entered when you created the pop account. Your first POP account has the same password as your main server login ID does.

4) pop server/incoming mail server :- mail. your-domain.com (alter this according to your domain name)

5) port :- Set this to '110' (usually this is already entered automatically and need not be changed)

Other settings such as 'name', 'reply-to address' and 'organization' may be filled with any value you deem appropriate; they will not directly affect the functionality of your POP mailbox

Can I subdivide my space and resell it?

Yes you may. You can add an additional domain name onto your account for a fee of Rs.500/year. This is  to bifurcate bulk space in to smaller accounts. You must handle domain name registration, the fees for this are separate and to be paid to network solutions. 

Do you allow adult content on your servers?

Certainly not. Adult content is banned from the Eisystem servers as discussed in our usage policies.

BILLING QUESTIONS

I'm being billed incorrectly? Who do I contact?

Please enter a ticket into the Help Desk. Alternatively, you may mail accounts@eisystem.net.

How long does it take to set up a new account?

Account setups are within as little as 10 minutes of payment being received, generally. If you pay by check, this would mean within 10 minutes of your check arriving at our processing division. However domain resolving would not be in our hands and can vary from registrars to registrars. If the domain is not booked through us we would not be responsible for domain resolving and you need to get it resolved from teh company you got teh domain registered for you.

What is the mode of payments?

We accept payments via Cash/Check/DD ,all Major CC's & Direct bank Deposits. 

If you are making payments via Check or DD , make payments favouring "Samer for Elecronic Est" Riyadh. If you are making payments for only domain registration you can make payments favouring " VeriSign Inc" & in US$'s.

If you are making payments directly to our bank account , you can deposit payments on the name of 

"Eisystem" having account number 5879974463 in any of the CitiBank branches worldover. 

What are the payment terms?

You have to pay 100% in advance for all the services we offer, we  provide the best of services & support to our customers who pay us on time and take no responsibility of the non paying customers or defaulting customers & their websites & domains.


DOMAIN QUESTIONS

Can I change my domain name?

To modify your domain name your entire account must actually be reconstructed. To get this done, please contact the Help Desk with the following information:

- Your current domain name
- Your desired domain name
- Your user name/pass
- Details on whether you need a domain name registration or transfer sent
- Acknowledgment that you accept the 500 Rs. fee for this service

How do I choose a domain name for my Web site?

Please use the Domain Name Wizards available on the net if you can not decide or find an available domain name. 

How long does it take for a new Domain Name to register?

Generally, domain name registrations complete in 2 minutes. The actual update, and eventual functionality of the domain name may take up to 36 hours to complete.

What characters may I use in my domain name?

You may use any of the 26 alphanumeric letters, as well as -. A domain name cannot begin or end with a "-" nor may it exceed 26 characters in the form domain.com. The .com accounts for 4 of the characters.
What extensions can I have on the end of my Domain Name?
You may use .com, .net, or .org if using us to register. If you wish to register your domain name yourself, you may use any extension allowed by the registrar you chose to use.


SITE BUILDING QUESTIONS

How do I get my page to load automatically?

Name your index file [as in, main page] "index.html" or "index.htm". If you are using a non-standard index, add DirectoryIndex your-index-name.extension to the bottom line of the .htaccess file located in the directory.

How do a make an online store on BombayBiz?

There is a shopping cart provided in the Control Panel to create an online store with.

I need a CGI that isn't on the control panel - what should I do?

You will either need to find this CGI online and install it your self.

Why don't my Real Audio files stream from my web site?

Please be sure that the .ram files your are building are using http streams and pnm streams. We only offer http streaming for real audio. An acceptable .ram file would look something like this:
http://www.yourname.com/directory/real-file.ra

I want to add databases to my site - how should I start?

The most effecient/lw account ready database system is through mysql. You may add databases as well as adminstrate them directly through your control panel's Mysql Tools section.

I want to collect my raw server logs to feed them through a log analysis package - where can I find them?

You may download your raw log file from the Site Stats sections of your control panel.

How can I access databases from my web pages?

The easiest way to do this by far is through PHP4 and it's mysql module. We suggest you research this at the PHP4 Homepage. We also have DBI/mysql support installed into perl on all machines.

How do I check the web usage statistics for my domain?

If you desire to use analog, then stats can be viewed in real-time from your online control panel. If you wish to use webalizer, then you may may view these from your online control panel also. Log files are processed once every 48 hours.

How do I use the anonymous ftp site?

For most  the accounts, this is already setup. Simply upload the desired files to the "public_ftp" directory. You may configure your anonymous FTP server further from the online control panel.

How do I create my own "404 Not found" error page?

This can be done quickly and easily using the error editor in the online control panel.

What is the correct path to perl, sendmail, and other programs?

The correct paths are as follows:
sendmail - /usr/sbin/sendmail
perl - /usr/bin/perl

For other paths, simply type "which command-name" and the full path will be returned from a shell [telnet] login.I get a '500 Server error' or '403 permission Denied' error when I try to run a cgi script.

How do I modify the files in the cgi-sys directory?

You cannot modify the files in the cgi-sys directory. These files are served from a central location from each machine. You may only edit files within your FTP directory structure.

Why isn't my counter incrementing when I hit reload?

Counter files track the IP address of the last visitor, and only increment when a different user (other than the last user) access's the counter. This is to keep counts much more accurate.
